Neuromodulators

Neuromodulators

Wrinkles and fine lines are natural signs of aging. Injectable neuromodulators like Botox and Dysport can offer a fast-acting, long-lasting solution for natural, younger-looking skin.
Read on to learn more about the injectable neurotoxin skin treatments offered at Ecstasis Healing, Wellness & Aesthetics.

What Are Neuromodulators?

Neuromodulators are substances that affect how your nervous system functions. When they are injected under the skin, they work by blocking the nerve receptors in your muscles, which prevents your muscles from contracting.

What Do Neuromodulators Treat?

Injectable neuromodulators are used to diminish the signs of aging, specifically dynamic wrinkles. Dynamic wrinkles include any deep lines or creases caused by facial expressions like crying, frowning, laughing, and squinting.

Over time, as you use your facial muscles to express yourself, the repeated movements stretch and pull at your skin. As you age and your skin begins to lose collagen, volume, and elasticity, these lines become more prominent.

Wrinkles and fine lines can appear on many areas of the face. Our neuromodulators can be used to target the following areas:

  • Forehead
  • Eyebrows
  • Eyes
  • Mouth

Each of these areas can produce different types of wrinkles, such as forehead (surprise) lines, crow’s feet, frown lines, and smile lines. Dynamic wrinkles like these can cause you to look older, angrier, or more tired than you feel.

By placing our injectable neuromodulators into particular areas of your face, we help you achieve a smoother, younger-looking complexion.

Are There Different Types of Neuromodulators?

At Ecstasis Healing, Wellness & Aesthetics, we offer three unique injectable neuromodulators: Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin.

Each type uses a slightly different synthesis of botulinum toxin type A, which requires different administration techniques and dosages. Despite their differences, all of our injectables are FDA-approved and proven to effectively reduce the appearance of wrinkles.

What Is Botox?

Botox is one of the oldest and most commonly used injectables. Ideal for patients who want natural-looking results, Botox offers small, concentrated doses that won’t spread. This means you can precisely target certain areas of the face while leaving nearby areas undisturbed.

After treatment with Botox, the results usually develop over the following seven to ten days.

What Is Dysport?

Dysport contains additional inhibitors and muscular blocking agents not found in Botox. Recommended for patients who want faster results, Dysport has a quicker onset and can produce results in as little as two to three days.

Dysport typically comes in a higher dosage than Botox, which makes it useful for targeting larger treatment areas. If you have used Botox in the past and find it no longer provides the results you desire, we may recommend Dysport for wrinkle treatments.

What Is Xeomin?

Xeomin has a slightly different molecular makeup than Dysport and Botox. It is often considered to be the “purest” injectable because it doesn’t have an accessory protein like those found in Dysport and Botox. This helps reduce the chance of allergic reactions or skin irritation and may increase the speed of effectiveness.

Most patients who are treated with Xeomin will see results develop in five to six days.

What Is the Treatment Like?

Treatment with neuromodulators includes a few simple steps.

Step 1: Consultation

We aim to prioritize our patients’ goals as well as safety, so we will begin your treatment plan with a comprehensive consultation. During your consultation, we will discuss your cosmetic goals and address any questions or concerns you may have.

We will also review your medical history, including any allergies, skin conditions, or medications, to ensure you are a good candidate for this procedure. Then, depending on your specific needs, we will recommend what type of injectable is best suited to you and schedule your treatment session.

Step 2: Treatment

We ask that you come in for your session with natural, product-free skin. Then we will cleanse your face and prepare the injections. We will then place the injectables with an ultra-thin needle just below the skin.
Since we will thoroughly discuss your treatment plan and areas of treatment during your consultation, there should be no surprises during the procedure.

There is no anesthesia required for injectable neuromodulators. You might feel a slight pinch with each injectable. Your comfort is our top priority, so if you’d like to numb the area before we begin, we can apply a topical anesthetic.

The injections only take a few minutes to place, so your total appointment should take between 10 and 30 minutes.

Step 3: Recovery

Since there is no downtime, you can feel free to resume your daily activities immediately following your treatment. We will provide you with personalized recommendations for aftercare depending on your treatment areas, skin type, and lifestyle.

The results will take a few days to develop, depending on the specific type of neurotoxin used in your injections. As your muscles relax, your skin will smooth out, and your wrinkles and fine lines will begin to fade.

How Long Do the Results Last?

The results from injectable neuromodulators can last anywhere from three to six months, but this time frame varies from person to person.

Your results will depend on how fast your body metabolizes the specific ingredients of your chosen treatment. Once the ingredients are fully metabolized, your facial muscles will start contracting again, and your wrinkles will begin to re-form.

Some patients are fast metabolizers and will need more frequent treatments to maintain their results. Others are slower, so their results will last longer. After your first treatment, we will be able to adjust your dosage and timeline for your follow-up appointments to seamlessly maintain your results between treatment sessions.
